Can you imagine that if you lose your soul? 

Probably it’s the loss of a close friend, or maybe the loss of an intimate lover, and perhaps even the loss of the only family you have. All these things, perhaps, can cause immense pain and make you feel like you’ve lost your soul. 

But you have to believe that you can overcome these pains and move beyond them.

The first time I listened to Johnny Stimson was 2020 I remembered. Johnny was recommended by Ann Jae Hyeon (안재현), Korean actor, on his IG post. Starting with “Flower”, I know I fell in love with the songs.

There is little information about Johnny Stimson actually, but it becomes one good thing because I can all focus on his works. 

One singer from Texas who sings and composes good songs. That’s all I know about him.

I can’t use proper nouns to define Johnny’s music. What I feel from his songs is pure, sincere, and moving. Maybe it is because he wrote songs with stories. When you feel the lyrics you get the pictures and then you know what he wants to talk about.

“Melt by the music." If you listen to Johnny’s songs, you will feel something like this.

I quite love his lyrics because if you look into the sentences, you will find a lot of fun. When I found “Queen of Sheba” in 《Pink Lemonade》, it reminded me of “Arrival of Queen Sheba” that I played with flute when I was little. He also said “Life is really just a lemon that you don’t get to choose” which I can’t agree more.

If you listen to 《Flower》, you probably feel like getting a love letter from a poet. You are recommended to listen to more Johnny’s songs. Sure that you can start with 《Smile》,《So Good》or《Hard to Say Goodby》.

Sometimes, we meet difficulties.

In the past few months, I’ve started to doubt myself. I don’t know if the difficulties I’ve faced in life represent my failures. I’ve lost the confidence and the belief in me. I cried for a few weeks and got lost in those few weeks. 

When I realized I was bad, I just looked like a soulless person. I knew that I needed to recover as soon as possible. I knew I had to rescue myself from the darkness.  Then, I started to read books and listened to music.

“I’ll Be Fine” is always on my top ten songs in the play list. I started to dig into the meaning of the lyrics. The original song is written for a person who loses his love. Somehow I was resonated by the song.

“And I know it hurts to say the word
But here’s goodbye

I’ll be fine
I’ll be fine
I’ll be fine

I know it’s hard to break a heart
But I’ll be fine” 

Suddenly, I got released. I think it’s about the end of my sadness and weakness. I will get well soon then.

One night, I couldn’t sleep. I found there was one post on Johnny’s IG. It said if you joined an activity, you might get a chance to meet Johnny Stimson. I did and I got the lucky chance to meet Johnny in person.

It’s hard to describe the feeling I had that night. When I said his songs heal me, it’s true.

Listening to those songs which I played a hundred times on my KKBOX, I almost teared up several times. “I can become me again now.” The voice told me from the heart.  That night, I was healed.

Johnny said his dream is to sing for people and if someone is encouraged by his songs, it would be nice. I want to tell him that he really did it. At least I know I’ve been cured by his music.
